PORTAGE – The Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jill Fast as the new head coach of the Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Trojans. Fast takes over from Donald Burrell and is the first female varsity head coach in league history.

Fast has plenty of experience on the gridiron, both as an athlete and coach. She began her playing career with the Winnipeg Wolfpack of the Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) in 2011, and has been selected for Team Manitoba as well as Team Canada in the past, where she excelled at linebacker. She started coaching with PCI in 2014 on the defensive side of the ball.

“I’m very excited for the 2021 football season,” she said. “Football is a great sport which I enjoy coaching and playing. There truly is a position for everyone, making it the ultimate team sport.

“This is a phenomenal hire for PCI,” added WHSFL commissioner Jeffrey Bannon.

“Jill was exciting to watch play for the Wolfpack and Team Canada, and to see her develop into an exceptional coach will benefit the PCI program to the fullest.”
