Muskies pivot finishes with 253 all-purpose yards

Led by pivot Brady Meeks, the Fort Frances Muskies scored 44 straight points this past Thursday night against the Neelin Spartans en route to a 50-25 win at East Side Eagles field in the Division 3 varsity game of the week.

The victory improved the Muskies record to 1-1 while Neelin fell to 0-2.

The Spartans held a significant amount of momentum throughout the first 18 minutes of play, leading 18-6 thanks in large part to versatile running back/linebacker Levi Kanski who finished the game with 154 yards and two scores on just five carries. He left the game at halftime due to injury however and his departure likely played a role in the final score.

On the other side, Meeks turned on the jets. He had multiple runs that went for big yardage toward the end of the first half, including a 70 yard touchdown as the Muskies took a 19-18 lead into halftime.

The Fort Frances pivot was even more dangerous in the second half as his team outscored Neelin 31-7 with Meeks ending the night with 120 yards rushing on just four carries as well as 133 yards through the air and four touchdowns.

"I love these boys with all my heart," Meeks said postgame when asked about the rapport amongst his Muskies teammates.

"It was a little bit difficult after week one [against Springfield] and the tough loss we took but we bounced back this week at practice and the score clearly shows it."

Next up for Fort Frances is a tilt against Churchill (0-1) while Neelin will take on Maples (1-0).
