Playing 4 A Purpose is a non-profit charitable foundation, founded and coordinated by Blue Bomber Alumnus Kelly Butler.

The Winnipeg High School Football League is proud to announce that it has partnered with Playing 4 A Purpose.

Playing 4 A Purpose is a non-profit charitable foundation, founded and coordinated by Blue Bomber Alumnus Kelly Butler. The foundation focuses on offering youth (both “at risk” and not) the opportunity and support to excel in sports, arts, academics and the community.

Playing 4 A Purpose will give athletes in the WHSFL several new opportunities to showcase their capabilities and talents, as well as help them succeed and thrive off the field.

This will be made possible by the addition of three scholarships (listed  in the below attachment), including a coaching award in honour of beloved Winnipeg Blue Bomber Coach Richard Harris. In total the annual value of the partnership between Playing 4 A Purpose and the WHSFL will be $9,500.

“I’ve known Kelly since the day he arrived in Winnipeg, he’s been involved in the community since day one," said WHSFL commissioner Jeffrey Bannon.

"It was Coach Harris who continued the trend of community values into the Blue Bomber locker room and to see it being carried over with Kelly and his foundation, I know Coach Harris is smiling upon us and to have our athletes and coaches benefit is something very special."

The Playing 4 A Purpose and WHSFL portfolio will include:

Mr. Purpose Award & Scholarship

Philanthropic Recognition

P4AP through Recruit Ready will support the orchestration and execution of this newly created showcase/combine. P4AP will be offering volunteers, coaching and financial supports as well as player exposure by bringing in various scouts across North America.

Playing 4 A Purpose currently supports four core initiatives, Recruit Ready, Attack Basketball, FIT Communications and Manitoba Theatre for Young People. They have also recently partnered with the Winnipeg Police Association to create a new initiative called Backpacks & Badges

Playing 4 A Purpose is passionate about creating opportunities for vulnerable youth in Winnipeg, to help them better understand and take control of their individual situations. The foundation strives to bring community and culture together to make a positive change in the lives of not only those directly involved, but in the lives of our city as a whole.

With over 1,100 athletes, 300 Coaches, 70 Officials and countless volunteers, the WHSFL continues to grow and look for community support. The WHSFL wants to help the lives of the young men and women who play and love the game of football, while learning the life lessons it teaches both on and off the field.
