Alex Djukic is a key force on the line for Sturgeon.

With 14 total starters back from a year ago as well as a promising group of younger stars, the Sturgeon Heights Huskies are primed for make some noise in Division 1 this season.

"Our short term goal for the season are to constantly improve every single day. Whether it be film, team lifts or practice, there is always an opportunity to grow and learn," head coach Eric Vincent says.

"Our long term goal is to be healthy and competitive into the end of the season and into the playoffs. We want to peak at the end of October, not the end of August."

The team will be lead on offence by their hoggies, which return four starters, including provincial team player Gavin Coakes. The backfield will include junior running backs Chase Ross and Cam Grzegorczyk (also a provincial team player). This backfield combo tallied 12 touchdowns and almost 1,000 rushing yards in two playoff games in the 9-man JV playoffs.

Defensively, weight room beast Alex Djukic is a player to keep an eye out for on the line. He's already received a look from the Manitoba Bisons and will look to build upon a solid season from a year ago.

"After performing well as a two-way starter in 2018, he has put on size, speed, and power," Vincent says. "He is looking poised for a breakout season."

Djukic will be aided by Connor Henry and Dallas Snare at linebacker as well as English exchange student Tommy Lloyd, who "has used his rugby background to earn himself a spot at starting halfback and will also handle punting and place kicking duties."
