Ishe Matanga will lead Vincent Massey's running attack in 2019

Kelsey McKay and the defending, undefeated Division 1 champion Vincent Massey Trojans have re-tooled for 2019 with a roster that sees many changes but maintains speed, athleticism and playmaking ability.

Gone are current Manitoba Bisons Jackson Tachinski (QB), Jack Shaffer, (OL/DL), Mark Rauhaus (OL), Matt Stokman (OL), Vaughan Lloyd (RB/REC) and Breydon Stubbs (RB), as well as Kyler Filewich (OL/DL to prep school basketball) and and Josiah Bradbury (DL to Indiana Wesleyan).

In their place are number of reliable seniors, along with a promising group of grade 11's from a JV squad that also went on an undefeated championship run.

Seniors expected to have a big impact include Ishe Matange (RB), Victor Olaniran (OL), Shad Nkiasi (REC), Riley Ho (REC) Jayden Zimmer (REC) and Kaiden Bannon (REC).

Matanga is a two-year provincial team player and CFC Prospect Game invite who was dominant at this year's Canada Cup. He's "very elusive and intelligent," according to his head coach and can beat you with his speed or power. Expect Matanga and grade 11 Negus Lewin to form a dangerous 1-2 this season. Olaniran is another provincial team starter and prospect game invite and is an "aggressive, dominant player," while Nkiasi and Zimmer offer speed to complement Bannon and Ho's size and deep-ball abilities.

Juniors Jordan Hanslip (QB), Mekai Saillant (FB), Maxim Bosc (LB), Jason Rushatsi (LB) and Nic Gilberto (DB) are just five other examples of players who will be go-to guys in 2019 for the Trojans.

Hanslip takes over for Tachinski and has earned tons of praise from his coach due to his workmanlike attitude, drive and leadership abilities. Already on the radar of some universities, he will be a key cog in Massey's offensive machine.

Saillant is an "intelligent team player" who can catch and run the ball well, in addition to being an outstanding blocker. Bosc started at middle linebacker on the varsity team last year and didn't miss a beat. Rushatsi has "incredible athleticism and range," and is a "play-maker," while Nic Gilberto had three interceptions in last season's JV championship game and is "tough as nails."
